My first velvet painting!
“Devil in the Blue Dress”
self-portrait on black velvet by Nikki Rice (2013)
Recently picked up the Breakin’ soundtrack on vinyl, and the thrill of this find inspired some new prints tonight. They’re still in progress - I printed some on canvas and some on paper, and I’m going to put a key on them later this week. RAD!!

I had to do a “master copy” for my painting midterm. I decided to use a painting by one of my favorite artists, Jenny Saville, called “Rosetta.” It’s not a perfect copy, but I think I got the colors and style down pretty well. I’m very happy with how it turned out.

New work in progress for SGC!
I made a couple collages that combined images from porn magazines, promotional travel magazines, and Psychology Today. Now I’m working on drawings to lay over them. My intentions are to make large digital prints of the collages themselves, then silkscreen the drawings over the top of them. It turns out that I really like how the drawing looks on its own, though, so I may print a couple of those independently first.

Goofing around in the studio and showing off my first go at some Cindy Sherman-inspired monotypes. This one is based on Untitled Film Still #30 (1979). Planning to re-do it, because (1) my dumb ass flipped the image on accident and (2) the lines and textures either need to be cleaner or dirtier. We’ll see.
Just finished my 2nd litho!! “Human Wreckage: 1923” lithograph by N. Rice (March 2012)
