Print & Installation Artist
Goofing around in the studio and showing off my first go at some Cindy Sherman-inspired monotypes. This one is based on Untitled Film Still #30 (1979). Planning to re-do it, because (1) my dumb ass flipped the image on accident and (2) the lines and textures either need to be cleaner or dirtier. We’ll see.
After finishing my last lithograph, which was based on a still from the 1923 silent film Human Wreckage, my professor suggested doing a series of monotypes inspired by other film stills. And so I have arrived here, where so many feminist artists before me have, at Cindy Sherman’s Untitled Film Still series. Enough homage can never be paid to the women who opened these professional artistic paths for us, so I think I’ll be using 3 or 4 of these for my project, instead of actual movie stills.
I have been given a “special” assignment (meaning I won’t get class credit for it, only instructor props haha) to make a few monotypes. I’ve never done one before. Any advice? Any links to some inspiring examples?
I’m currently still in my research phase, which, for this particular project, involves collecting some intriguing film stills to work from.
